Lutz-Kinoy regards the show as a moment of pause within the interactive, multidisciplinary flow that his work is. In ‘Who is Matthew Lutz-Kinoy’, her article in the February, 2012 number of Metropolis M, Vivian Ziherl writes about this: “(...) the layered performance encounters of New York artist Matthew Lutz-Kinoy bustle with the energy of enjoyment as sculpture is freed from stasis, as expressive painting expands beyond pictorial scale to embrace the social, and as the audience is invited along to the party, perhaps catching its reflection in mirrors scattered across the midriff of a stage.(...) Lutz-Kinoy’s practice is generative. A fluid set of concerns - symbolic, political and formal - flow together, occasionally solidifying into a wild retinue of forms; Plexiglas sculptures, mono-type prints, declarative artist-books and high-heeled out-sized performance-paintings among them. Fragments from these processes are recycled across media into other works, feeding or framing new points of departure. No part proposes an end-point unto itself (...). Straddling gym, gallery, club and kitchen-table, the works of Lutz-Kinoy together call to presence, to a self-awareness of the performances that we all enact in the simple/complex matter of being in the world.”

Matthew Lutz-Kinoy was born in 1984 in Brooklyn, NY, USA. He currently lives and works in Berlin and New York. In 2011, his first presentation in Belgium was ‘Say it with flowers’, as part of Deweer Gallery’s Blackbox Series. In 2012 he took part in ‘Re-Opening’, the group show with which Deweer Gallery opened its renovated and expanded building. In 2012, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy also took part in ‘Beyond Imagination’, the opening show of  the new Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and presented ‘Keramikos 2’ at Elaine / Museum für Gegenwartskunst Basel - coproduced by Deweer Gallery - after which the show travelled to Villa Romana in Florence (2012) and Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2013).  In 2011 he made a show at Silberkuppe, Berlin and the performance ‘Donna Haraway’s Expanded Benefits Package’ (with SOPHIE and Chelsea Culp), which was staged at the New Museum Theater in New York and at Trouw night club in Amsterdam with the Stedelijk Museum. In 2010 and 2011 he was artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Screenings of his films have been organized at a.o. Whitechapel Gallery in Londen (2010), Kölnischer Kunstverein in Cologne, and the New Museum in New York (both 2009).
