The Paul Rebeyrolle Centre celebrates its 10th anniversary. Open in 1995, in Eymoutiers - the birth place of the painter - in Haute Vienne, 40 Km from Limoges, it houses more than 40 of Paul Rebeyrolle's works, which are fully representative of his career. Every year the Centre organizes temporary exhibitions inviting visitors to discover or re-discover the works of some famous artists from the 20th Century. Pieces of art from Bacon, Brancusi, Braque, Giacometti, Kowalski, Picasso, Riopelle, Soulages, Miró, Léger, César, Monory, Pouget, Roel D'Haese among others, were displayed during the past 10 years. Since its opening in 1995, it has welcomed 85 000 visitors.

New works from the past ten years

This anniversary is also a tribute to Paul Rebeyrolle, who died on the 7th of February this year. Plongeons dans la peinture, the exhibition organized on this occasion, displays over forty paintings representing the artist's work from 1959 to 2000. It shows the pieces of art already present at the Centre and also some others especially loaned for the event. There are almost 30 new paintings, essentially created over the past ten years, joining Le Cyclope, Hommage à Georges Guingouin and the other paintings in the permanent inventory .Simultaneously some works, usually based in Eymoutiers, will be loaned for another big Rebeyrolle exhibition taking place at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Fernet-Branca, in Saint-Louis, Alsace, at the doors of Germany and Switzerland.

A sensuous celebration of the materials and colours of the world.

On 1000 meters of exhibition space, over 50 pieces of art, most of which have never been shown before, are displayed together for the first time. Some portraits of Paul Rebeyrolle, made by the photograph Gérard Rondeau, are part of the exhibition. Visitors will also be able to watch the film Rebeyrolle ou le journal d'un peintre - Rebeyrolle, a painter’s diary - from he same Gérard Rondeau. This is an opportunity to take a different view of the Centre and appreciate Rebeyrolle’s work which, in all its strength and diversity, is a sensuous celebration of the materials and colours of the world.
