Painting, photography, video and new technologies, with its twenty-eight galleries of exclusively contemporary art and nearly 200 artists, Show Off (read our previous article), will be rich in artistic discoveries. The presentations in the galleries will be accompanied throughout the fair by an important ensemble of videos and daily performances, in the fair and in the movie house open to the public, the Show Room.

Video programs

The Show Room will host very varied videos, such as Sketch01.Night (Commissioner Alexandre Pollazzon), Emerging (Commissioner: Marie Magnier), a Swiss Retrospective Video Program (Commissioner Michel Ritter/Nicolas Trembley) in collaboration with the Swiss Cultural Center in Paris, A Certain French Touch (Commissioner: Brent Klinlum), Plug and play (Commissioner: Carine Le Malet). To this we can add a video program Spécial Collectionneurs (Collectors special) in which six collectors chose a video among the works of their collection. At the same time, the 28 participating galleries present a selection of videos in the Vidéo Galleries program. Last but not least, five international commissioners have accepted to prepare a program of their choice, Vidéo Curators, to be shown every day.

Performances

There will also be performances. During the opening of Show Off, Gil & Moti will invite the public to have their hair done as theirs. The volunteers will don headsets and have their hair sculpted while looking on a lap top computer at a video, Letters to Leila. These letters speak of the relations between persons from different communities, Palestinians and Israelis. The aim of this performance is to greatly modify the perception the spectators may have of a subject such as this one while their own aspect undergoes a major change. In another performance Philippe Tourriol pays a tribute to Yves Klein through a Judo demonstration, while the spectators look at Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen who appears as a ballerina losing control of his body. With Madonnabramovic Lucky Star, Pascal Lièvre questions Marina Abramovic’s act in 1975, when she traced a Communist star on her stomach with a razor blade. In Intoxication Télévisuelle (Television Intoxication), Zevs accuses television of being the number one instrument in alienating individuals to images.
