Ivoires, de l'Orient ancien aux temps modernes

Ivories, From Ancient Orient to Modern Age
From june 25 to august 30 2004
Sculpture
Artists have always prefered ivory for its beauty and its quality. To sculpt or model ivory is a true challenge, for the natural form and its fragility make it hard to handle. The louvre presnets the masterpieces of its collections from the antique Near-East, as well as pieces from Egypt, Rome and the medieval times.
