Artists have always prefered ivory for its beauty and its quality. To sculpt or model ivory is a true challenge, for the natural form and its fragility make it hard to handle. The louvre presnets the masterpieces of its collections from the antique Near-East, as well as pieces from Egypt, Rome and the medieval times. |
