At the beginning of the XIXth century the bourgeoisie greatly appreciated sea baths for their health values. This was naturally followed by swimming in the Loire, and between 1880 and the 1970s it became the privilege of local residents and tourists alike. It reveals a natural, carefree relation between man and his environment, to the point of hiding the dangers linked to the river's nature.
