Over 110 works demonstrate how Caravaggio, considered as the artist who triggered off the naturalist revolution in Europe, took his place in a tradition in Lombardy characterized by the observation of reality. This tradition was initiated by Leonardo da Vinci, followed by Lorenzo Lotto and Annibale Carrache among others, and which make the region of Lombardy the crib of modern naturalism. |
