Gauguin and the origins of symbolism

From september 28 2004 to january 9 2005
Modern art
The 186 works of this exhibit look closely at the work of Gauguin as well as that of other artists, such as Pissaro, Degas,Bonnard or Vuillard, between 1884 and 1891. During those years, Gauguin became the head of the symbolist movement in painting. He abandoned one after another the traditional description methods and favored the purity of lines and of colour.
