Ideal worlds: new romanticism in contemporary art

From may 12 to august 28 2005
Contemporary art
Following the analytical exploration of speech in the 80s and 90s and the transformation of art into a social act, it is obvious that there is a rebirth of traditional work. A group of artists very much in vogue, such as Peter Doig, David Thorpe, Kaye Donachie et Christopher Orr, has picked up the scheme of the Romantic spirit, i.e. the desire for the heavenly, for beauty and fairy tales. To reinforce this diemnsion the artists shown have turned not only to painting, but also to other key media of most-modernism, such as photography, installations and video.
