It would be difficult to find another artist from the second half of the XIXth century whose work is as bizarre, ironic, deep and rich in possibilities of interpretation as that of Belgian painter James Ensor. His unusual subjects, who have become bright symbols of the absurdity of our existence, influenced the German expressionists as well as the French surrealists...The exhibit presents some seventy major paintings and some forty works on paper, including key works from each of his creative periods.
