By grouping together some one hundred major works, the exhibition illustrates well the elegance and innovation of French art, of the refined production of the court's society from the XVIth century to that of the "cafe society" of the XIXth century. These works of art from the Renaissance to Post-impressionism, including works by Jean Clouet, Claude Lorrain, Antoine Watteau, Edgar Degas and Georges Seurat, have rarely been shown by theBritish Museum due to their great sensitivity to light. |
