In 1907 the Russian artistic world was shaken by an unusual movement that affected the plastic arts as well as theater, architecture, cinema, photography and design. The first avant-gard opposed itself to Naturalism and Symbolist dreaming. It went through various phases before progressively melting into the Soviet ideology.
