Ukyiyo-e pictures of the floating world provide an incomparable record of Japanese life and their influence on western painters was critical in the latter half of the 19th century. Innovative artists such as Hishikawa Moronobu (d. 1694), Okumura Masanobu (1686 - 1764) are featured.
