Throughout the 1700s, travelers travelled to Italy in search of inspiration and discovery.They encouraged the production of portable visual record of the country in the form of drawn or painted landscapes and cityscapes. Images by Piranesi, F. Guardi and also Fragonard and Vernet illustrate that thematic.
