Genoa was once one of the richest and most cosmopolitan cities of northern Italy. During the 17th century, foreign painters such as Rubens and Van Dyck went to work there and painted grandiose portraits of elegant Genoese aristocrats. 20 masterpieces demonstrate the splendour of the Genoese Baroque.
