Inspired by Italy: Dutch Landscape Painters 1600-1700

From may 22 to august 26 2002
Ancient art
Italy has always attracted artists, in the 17th century Jan Both and Nicolaes Berchem brought back from Italy seductive visions of mountains and golden light, to a flat and cloudy Holland. They inspired Cuyp, Wynants, Wouwermans and Weenix towards their own idyllic interpretations of landscapes they had never seen.
